Not Good Enough Documentary

August 22, 2024 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Youth sports are common in our community. And playing isn’t just about winning or losing; having fun and staying healthy. Young athletes learn how to work as a team, deal with challenges, and respect themselves and others.

At the same time, approximately 1 in 4 of our young people are experiencing a diagnosable mental illness right now. For young athletes, the pressure for perfection is an added weight to the unhealthy pressure so many already face.

The Kansas City Royals and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City interviewed parents, coaches, children, and mental health professionals to create a compelling documentary, Not Good Enough, detailing how the pressures placed on student-athletes can severely impact their mental health and how best to support whole health.

Erin Stucky, President and CEO of Blue KC says, “We must challenge the culture in which our youth feel pressure to be perfect, perform and win in all they do. This documentary is a powerful reminder that we need to model the behavior we want our kids to adopt, focus on the importance of attitude and effort, and give kids grace.”

Chris Willis, Head Volleyball Coach, Davidson College and John Brunelle, Ph.D., Licensed psychologist; clinical and sport psychology, and a college athlete will be joining us as expert panelists to reflect on the film and answer questions you may have.

Thank you to the Davidson Turkey Trot and Students Offering Smiles for making this possible.
